Dog Destroyed After Biting Child at Pookey’s Park

CALIFORNIA -- On Friday, October 18 Hoopa Valley Tribal Police responded to a call that a young child was bitten in the face by a pit bull at Pookey’s Park in Hoopa.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed there was a dog bite victim, identified the dog with the help of eye witnesses, and killed the dog with a single gunshot.

The dog’s owner was not identified and the dog is believed to be a stray. The officers shot the dog in an area of the park that was uninhabited at the time.

One of the officers explained that they are left with little choice but to put down dangerous animals because they lack a facility to house such animals.
