Dog In Belmont County Is Rescued From Brink of Starvation, Owner Charged

WEST VIRGINIA -- Belmont County officials are working on a shocking case of animal abuse after the Belmont County Animal Rescue League saved a dog from the brink of starvation on Wednesday.

The male Doberman was discovered outside its owner's home on Key-Bellaire Road, and his condition was described as "nothing but skin and bones."

Humane Officer Mandae Lewis said the owner, 19-year-old Dakota Patterson, is being charged with one count of animal cruelty. Lewis says the dog has been examined by a veterinarian, who has placed it on an intensive nutrition program.

Fortunately, the veterinarian believes the dog can make a full recovery, but it will take months.
