NEW JERSEY -- A northern New Jersey woman is being charged with animal cruelty after four American bulldog puppies were found dead in a cooler.
An acquaintance told police in Linden that when the woman gave him the four motionless dogs in a cooler, she told him they were probably just sleeping. But when the man later touched the 5-week-old puppies, police say he discovered they were dead.
The man told police the woman had make threatening remarks about the dogs in an argument over the phone with her boyfriend, a dog breeder.
Police said Tuesday that 26-year-old Kimberly Matthews of Linden is being charged with four counts of animal cruelty. Matthews has denied wrongdoing.
Police say she told investigators the dogs were alive when she turned them over to the acquaintance. -
