Man, 75, stabbed neighbor's dog with homemade spear

ILLINOIS -- A 75-year-old Schaumburg man has been charged with animal cruelty for stabbing a neighbor’s dog with a homemade spear, authorities said today.

Anthony E. Haynes, of the 100 block of Blackhawk Drive, was charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal, a felony. Bond has been set at $10,000, officials said.

Assistant State’s Attorney Katherine Levine said Haynes fashioned a seven-foot metal spike and stabbed the 10-month-old dog, a Cane Corso, several times in the chest on Tuesday.

Levine said the dog required emergency surgery. She said Haynes told police he stabbed the dog because he was tired of its barking. Haynes appeared in Rolling Meadows branch court Wednesday.
His next court date is Nov. 15.
