McKeesport woman attacked by dog, hospitalized with leg injuries

PENNSYLVANIA -- McKeesport animal control officer Ken Ferree said a woman was attacked by a dog in the city's Christy Park neighborhood on Monday.

Ferree said the woman was severely injured at around 11:45 a.m. while trying to stop a dark-colored pit bull from mauling her chained pit bull in a yard along the 400 block of Thirty-Second Avenue.

The woman's dog sustained wounds to its chest and leg.

Ferree said the woman was rushed to UPMC McKeesport by McKeesport Ambulance Rescue Service with some of the worst leg injuries he has seen.

“It was awful looking,” he said.

The attacking dog was quarantined and could be euthanized in 10 days if its owner is not found.

Ferree said he scanned the dog for an identification chip but found none.

“We don't have much to go on,” Ferree said. “There will be a police report.”

He said animal attacks in Christy Park are rare, and that neighborhood residents are responsible pet owners.

Ferree said the quarantined dog is aggressive toward other dogs, and its owner will be charged with harboring a dangerous animal and allowing it to run loose.

Anyone with information should contact Ferree Kennels at 412-672-6699, or McKeesport police at 412-675-5015.
