Northern NY woman accused of starving horses

NEW YORK -- New details on an alleged case of animal neglect in northern New York.

Officials took a citizen complaint last week concerning horses on Shelley Wing's farm in Essex.
Officers say Wing failed to provide enough food and water for the horses. She is facing 41 counts of animal cruelty.

It took officials two days to remove all of the horses and relocate them for veterinary care and recovery.

"I grew up on a dairy farm and I'm familiar with animals, but I've never seen anything that was so many animals in such a small enclosure with varying conditions. They needed food and medical care," said Sheriff Richard Cutting of the New York State Sheriff's Association.

Officials say they want the public to refrain from dropping off food for the horses since they are under veterinary care and on strict diets.
