Woman told pit bull for sale on Craigslist is not 'kid friendly'; she buys it and turns it loose around kids. You can guess what happened next...

PENNSYLVANIA -- A five-year-old girl is recovering after she was mauled by a pit bull. Now, Mary Jane Jones, 27, of Conestoga Township, is charged with reckless endangerment.

Millersville Police said after the dog attack, Jones went to a Millersville pizza shop where the dog’s owner works and attacked the woman. It was all captured on surveillance video.

Southern Regional Police said Jones responded to a Craigslist ad the woman placed for an 11-month-old pit bull puppy for sale last month.

Jones took the puppy to her Conestoga Township home on a trial basis.

Just a few hours later, the dog mauled a five-year-old relative, who was playing with three other children at the house. The girl is recovering from more than 40 puncture wounds and 80 stitches.

“She’s going to survive and be okay, of course she’s going to have mental and physical wounds that are going to be with her for the rest of her life I’m sure,” said Cpl. Ron Burger of the Southern Regional Police Department in Lancaster County.

Cpl. Burger said the dog’s owner wrote in the ad and later told Jones in a text message that the dog is very protective and should not be around children. Jones assured the owner that she does not have kids.

“For the actor to go ahead and put the dog right with children in harms’ way of the kids, it’s very unfortunate and very sad,” he said.

After the dog attacked the little girl, police returned it to its owner and the animal was later euthanized.

Jones is also charged with simple assault in the attack of the dog’s owner.

  1. Naw, I'm gonna defend the new owner here. The ad says the dog "Play a little rough" and might "knock down" small children, not try to eat them.

I'm betting former owners haven't fully disclosed the dogs past AND that they sugar coated the dog's behavior when the gal came to pick it up, else why do you think she confronted the woman and tried to beat her up? That's not the action of someone feeling "oh, I was told the dog wasn't kid friendly, but I put him with kids anyway". That's the action of someone that's been lied to.

Yeah, a lot of us view pits with suspicion, but I tell you what, 27 year olds have been fed the lines "just like any other dog", "press makes things up", etc. all their lives.

    1. i agree with what you just said and think the new owner did not fully understand what she was doing . if the sellers had said the dog is vicious and dangerous to small children , that would have been different than saying it plays rough . people believe what they want and i think she thought it was okay with kids and so made an error of judgement . its seems that most people with pits think they are just great , i dont happen to agree with that but i can see how people can be suck into thinking like this .

  2. Nothing to see here...just makin' a little tax free dinero...

Why is it a felony to traffic a dog for fighting purposes, but selling a dog to rip a kid is a mere $50 dollar ticket?!?

Time to shut it all down!
