Albany police shoot, kill dog that twice attacked officer

NEW YORK -- Albany police say an officer has killed a pit bull after the dog twice attacked and bit him.

According to a police news release, officers responded Sunday morning to a report of a loose pit bull.

When they found the dog, it attacked one of the officers, who managed to retrieve his gun during the attack and shoot the dog.

The wounded animal ran away but was soon located on a nearby street. The officer shot and killed it when the dog became aggressive again.

The officer was treated and released at Albany Medical Center.

The dog's owner hasn't been located.
