Chicago city animal shelter worker mauled by pit bull

ILLINOIS -- A worker at Chicago’s city animal shelter was hospitalized Saturday after being mauled by a pit bull.

The 47-year-old woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez, who said she was seriously injured.

Emergency workers were called to the Animal Care and Control Center in the 2700 block of South Western Avenue after the worker was attacked by the dog just after 9:30 a.m., Hernandez said.
