Gastonia couple cited for having 43 dogs at home

NORTH CAROLINA -- The Gaston County Police Department Animal Control Division investigated a public nuisance complaint Thursday at 3511 S. York Highway in Gastonia.

Officers discovered approximately 43 dogs at the residence living in unacceptable conditions, some with immediate health issues.


The animals' owners surrendered 39 dogs to Animal Control.

Animal Control is working with animal rescue groups to find homes for the dogs.

Owners Denise Colvert and Robert Canipe were cited for animal cruelty, failure to vaccinate and failure to obtain licenses.

They have been cooperative during the investigation and continue to work with Animal Control to resolve this situation.
