CALIFORNIA -- A 10-year-old girl was recovering Friday after being attacked by a pit bull in Indio earlier this week.

The incident happened Wednesday night in Yucca Park, according to a news release issued by the Riverside County Department of Animal Services.

Officials said the girl was bitten in her face after approaching the stray, 2-year-old blue pit bull. She was taken to an area hospital with two puncture wounds and two lacerations.

Soon after the attack, the dog was picked up by Riverside County Animal Services Sgt. Miguel Hernandez.

The dog is currently at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus, according to authorities.
