Loser who baited deer and then shot it with arrow gets fined, but no jail time

NEW YORK -- A Staten Island, N.Y., man was assessed a total of $7,000 in fines and fees for the unlawful taking KILLING of a trophy-class 10-point buck in Saw Creek Estates, according to the state Game Commission.

The fine is believed to be the highest assessed in Pike County.

Jason C. Hojnacki was cited for three violations of the Game and Wildlife Code: One count related to archery hunting within 50 yards of a residence, resulting in a $500 fine; the use of unlawful devices and methods for using bait (food) as an enticement for wildlife, resulting in a $200 fine; and unlawful taking or possession of game or wildlife, an $800 fine.

[Yes, it takes great skill to create an unnatural buffet bar for a wild animal, go sit on your butt and wait for it to come to dinner and then shoot it. Then you get to tell everyone how you "took" it, that you "harvested it", that you "hunted" for it.]

He was also assessed $500 for the witness compensation fund and $5,000 for restitution for the 10-point buck, the commission said.

The incident occurred Oct. 7 in the late afternoon on Canterbury Road in Saw Creek Estates.

Deputy Wildlife Conservation Officer John Sivo of Pike County investigated.

Hojnacki pleaded guilty to all charges on Nov. 12, the commission said.
