Officers say large number of dogs rescued in Lowell

NORTH CAROLINA -- Investigators say Gaston County Animal Control rescued about 40 dogs from a home in Lowell on Tuesday.

Officers arrived at a house on North Clay Street and found over 45 dogs.

Officers determined "some of the dogs living conditions to be unacceptable" according to Gaston County Animal Control.

After looking into the situation investigators say many of the animals were in good condition including being spayed or neutered and vaccinated.

Animal Control Officers say they took control of 40 dogs and some of the dogs did not meet vaccination and license requirements.

The animals seized have been placed with rescue groups in the area.

The owner of the home, Wanda Poteat was cited for animal cruelty, failure to vaccinate, and failure to obtain licenses according to Animal Control.

The Lowell Police Department and Gaston County Animal Control worked together on this case.
