Owner of dog involved in Knoxville dog bite cited

TENNESSEE -- The former owner of a dog who bit the face of a two-year-old girl Tuesday night has been cited.

Jetta Surrett, 21, faces two Misdemeanor citations for not having the dog's shots up to date and not having a city license for the dog.

The incident happened Tuesday night at Steeplechase Apartments on Central Avenue Pike.

Knoxville police say Surrett was babysitting the girl, when the mother, Kendra Lusby, 22, insisted the girl play with the dog, knowing it was not friendly toward children.

[It sounds as those this is the Defendant's allegations, blaming the mother. I would guess that the mother has a completely different story.]

The dog then bit the girl on the cheek, leaving a huge wound on her face.

The child was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and is expected to be okay.

A referral has been made to the Department of Children's Services. Charges are possible against Lusby pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Surrett surrendered ownership of the dog to animal control. Officials say the dog will be euthanized after a quarantine period has passed.
