Pensioner forced to beat off Alsatian after attack on her pet dog

UNITED KINGDOM -- A PENSIONER was forced to beat off an Alsatian who attacked her pet dog while she took him for a morning walk.

Ann Haughton, aged 79, of Willoughby Close, was walking her pet Jack Russell Milo along Cromwell Avenue, in Westbrook, when two unsupervised dogs ran at her and her dog.

One of the dogs, a big black Alsatian looking breed, began to attack little Milo while the other, a small beige dog, just watched and barked during the incident at 9.30am last Wednesday, October 23.

Ann’s daughter Kim Gavan, aged 57, is upset by what happened to her mother and her dog and is angry that nobody stopped to help her out.

She said: “It’s a really busy road, plenty of people must have seen what was happening but no one bothered to stop and help.

“My mum is devastated, she could have lost her loved companion and she’s scared of taking him out again after what happened.”

Ann was forced the beat the dog off with her walking stick while it was attacking rescue dog Milo, according to Ann.

He was immediately taken to the Rees Veterinary Centre, in Orford, where he had to have surgery. He had trauma and puncture wounds and Ann was told she could lose him.

Since the attack, Milo has been sent home but has returned to the vets for daily check-ups and has been told he is not completely out of the woods but is doing well.
