Police appeal after woman seriously hurt in Wednesbury dog attack

UNITED KINGDOM -- Police have released CCTV images of two men they want to speak to about the attack that happened on a set of playing fields near to Richard Williams Road, Wednesbury at around 5.30pm on Saturday October 26.

The 41-year-old woman was out walking her own Jack Russell, when she saw two men with a sandy brown/black dog on a lead.

But as the woman was about to leave the field, she heard a disturbance turned around and saw the dog and two men running towards her.

The long-legged Staffie jumped up and tried to bite her Jack Russell which she desperately tried to protect.

One of the men tried to restrain the dog - thought to be called Barnie or Barmy - but it struggled free and bit the woman on the arm.

She was able to escape to a friend's house and was taken to hospital where she underwent surgery the following day.

One man is described as white, around 5ft 6ins tall and of thin build, with a shaved head, in his late 40s to early 50s and was wearing blue jeans.

The other man was also white but shorter at around 5ft 3ins tall, of large build, with grey spiked hair and was thought to be wearing blue jeans and a black coat.

Sergeant Leighton Shingles said: "In trying to protect her dog the owner has been the victim of a vicious attack.

"It's against the law to let a dog be dangerously out of control in a public place and I would urge the community to come forward with any information which may assist the investigation.

"Officers have trawled through CCTV as part of this investigation and the images that have been released were taken from a nearby shop.

"I also want to appeal directly to the owner of the dog to do the right thing and come forward."
Anyone able to help should call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
