Residents rise up to protect pet potbellied pig named Bubba that town tried to boot

PENNSYLVANIA -- There were signs. There were protests. And there wasn’t a seat left in the house at last night's town meeting near Los Angeles.

At issue was the fate of one fat, pot-bellied pig, named Bubba. A new ordinance on keeping livestock was poised to outlaw the pet pig within Seal Beach city limits. The city council was ready to give Bubba the boot, citing the 235-pound pet pig as a threat to health and welfare in the community.

But residents, some waving signs or sporting “Save Bubba” T-shirts, had other ideas. In the end, the pig prevailed.

According to published reports, members of the Seal Beach city council voted to add pigs to a list of livestock banned by a city ordinance, but agreed to make an exception for one pot-bellied pig named Bubba.

No word on what big, ol’ Bubba did to celebrate.
