WISCONSIN -- A La Crosse woman faces animal cruelty charges that accuse her of killing her boyfriend’s basset hound early Thursday.
Selina Boulton, 32, strangled the dog to death after she broke into his house on the 700 block of North Losey Boulevard, according to La Crosse police.
Boulton flagged down police about 2:10 a.m. claiming she was kicked out of her boyfriend’s apartment, police said.
He said the two spent the evening out but he wouldn’t allow her at his house. Boulton then broke into his house through a kitchen window and killed his 13-year-old dog, Jixer, with a choke collar, police said. The boyfriend found her crying in his bedroom.
She denied hurting the animal. Boulton had a 0.10 percent alcohol level.
Animal control officers are keeping the dog’s body as evidence.
She faces charges of mistreating an animal causing death, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property when she appears Tuesday in La Crosse County Circuit Court.
Boulton cannot have contact with animals as a condition of her $1,000 signature bond.
