Two horses in the couple's care in the 200 block of West 2nd Street were found to be malnourished. One was later euthanized after being examined by a veterinarian.
The owner of the horse that was euthanized, Gilbert Garcia, who had left the animal with the couple, was ordered by DeWitt County Justice of the Peace Bill Robinson to pay $890 for the cost of putting down his horse.
Yorktown Police Officer Richard Ramirez said the living horse was much improved since being fed regularly.
The horses were seized and relocated Oct. 24, and one was euthanized two days later.
