MASSACHUSETTS -- An undisclosed number of wolves escaped from Wolf Hollow yesterday but were quickly captured and returned, according to Ipswich police.
Police said the wolves were “only out for a few minutes” and that the animal control officer was involved in capturing them. Police would not say how many wolves escaped or offer any more information.
A woman who answered the phone at Wolf Hollow said, “They’re all secured,” and hung up.
Wolf Hollow is a nonprofit business on Route 133 that teaches people “about the importance of the wolf in the wild” and offers wolves for adoption, according to its website.
The Essex County Trail Association posted a “trail alert” on its Facebook page yesterday saying that “several” wolves had escaped from Wolf Hollow about 11:45 a.m.
The alert said the wolves were last seen heading across the Maplecroft area fields toward Argilla Road and urged trail users and residents to use “extreme caution.”
A wolf escaped from Wolf Hollow in 2010 when it apparently climbed a snowbank to get over the fence. The wolf returned on her own five hours later.
