Reynoldsburg Looks at Pit Bull Ban

OHIO -- City council members could make changes to a current ban on pit bulls.

A Reynoldsburg ordinance prevents people within city limits from owning a vicious dog or pit bull -- a ban that some say isn’t fair.

"There are pit bulls that are big and they're the sweetest lap puppies ever," said Michele Nieves, who works at the Adorable Dog grooming service in Reynoldsburg. "They'll sit on your lap and lick you to death."

A local veterinarian backed up the ban opponents' claims that not all pit bull breeds are dangerous.

"Obviously the fear of pit bulls is that they can hurt people. They've been known to kill people. They can injure people,” said Joel Melin, a veterinarian at Animal care Hospital of Reynoldsburg. ”It's unfair because there are a lot of really nice pit bulls."

Reynoldsburg Mayor Brad McCloud said the city is forming a committee to look at the current law.
