It happened in the 2900 block of West Bijou right in front of the Mountain Sun Community School.
"It was shaking it like it was a toy, just tearing it apart," said Nancy Brown of her 5-year old Pomeranian, Jasmine, who died after the attack.
Brown said she was on a walk when she saw the larger dog run towards her, Jasmine and Brown's second dog, a Chihuahua.
"It had a hold of him [the Chihuahua] and started shaking him, then put him down and grabbed the Pomeranian and shook her and shook her and just ripped her apart," said Brown.
The attack took place right outside of the Mountain Sun Community School during recess.
"One of our kindergarten parents had to literally tackle the dog and keep it away," said Jeremy Tackett, a teacher at the school who held onto the dog before officials arrived on scene.
By that time it was too late for Jasmine.
"All I could see is my little Pomeranian, just a bundle of fur and blood. You couldn't even recognize her," said Brown.
Brown's second dog is still recovering from the attack while the Anatolian shepherd was taken by the Pikes Peak Humane Society. Its owners are being charged with unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog.
Humane Society officials tell 11 News that this is the first time they've had issues with this dog.
The owners can get their dog back if they pay at least $600 to the Humane Society and if the court allows them to keep it.
If the court chooses to take the dog away, the Humane Society will assess the dog's behavior before deciding what to do next.
