MICHIGAN -- Chris Pickering of Jackson woke up to her furnace being out in the frigid conditions of Monday morning, and that wasn't the only surprise she encountered.
She discovered a white male boxer on her porch and later found a second dog. Now she's hoping someone knows how to contact the owner or owners of the dogs to return them to their homes
“(The boxer) was frozen to my porch,” Pickering said. “So I brought him inside and wrapped him up in a blanket."
Later, a female shepherd mix was found running around and stopping cars east of Ella Sharp Park. That dog had a camouflage collar and tags, but ones from Kansas that hadn't been updated since 2012.
“Kasey was carved into the back of her tags,” Pickering said. “My neighbors said they had seen this dog jumping on cars, as if it was looking for someone.
“When the boxer saw Kasey, it kind of lured her into my house, and they cuddled up and slept most of the day.”
Pickering called the Kansas Animal Clinic and received two phone numbers in regard to Kasey, neither of which led to her owner.
After posting some information and pictures of the dogs on the Lost & Found Pets of Jackson Facebook page, she fielded some calls for one but not both of the dogs.
“I didn't want to separate them myself,” Pickering said. “The animal shelter doesn't seem to think that they are from the same owner."
Pickering kept the dogs for the day but turned them over to the Jackson County Animal Shelter the following day.
"I have a dog of my own so I wasn't in a situation to keep them," Pickering said.
The animal shelter reports that the dogs are in good condition, and officials there have yet to hear anything from the original owners.
