MICHIGAN -- A man walking his dog about 11 a.m. Sunday in Detroit passed an alley and heard whimpering.
It was a dog trapped inside a trashcan.
He called the Michigan Humane Society of Detroit. The dog, a 4-year-old Maltese-mix now named "Edgar," was rescued by animal care workers. Edgar had been through a lot.
"The MHS rescue driver found that Edgar had the handle of a bag twisted around his neck and was covered in severe urine burns," the Humane Society said in a statement. "It appears that Edgar had been confined at another location for a long time before being put in the garbage can."
The dog was rushed for treatment.
"MHS is hopeful that he will make a full recovery," said the Humane Society. "However, the recovery time and cost of treatment has yet to be determined."
A $2,500 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the animal abuse. Anyone who has information regarding the animal is asked to call the Michigan Humane Society Cruelty Hotline, 313-872-3401.
