Berks County dog owner faces charges following vicious attack

PENNSYLVANIA -- A Berks County man is facing charges after his dog got loose and viciously attacked another dog, according to state police.

Police said the attack happened around 4:20 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Long Lane Road in Greenwich Township.

A pit bull/lab mix owned by Anthony Schmeck darted out of his residence and ran towards a neighboring property, where it attacked a 16-month-old female yellow lab, causing life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said Schmeck and and a neighbor had to strike the dog repeatedly to stop the attack.

The yellow lab, named Paisley, was rushed to an emergency veterinarian clinic. The dog has since returned home, and its owners say he is recovering.

Schmeck is facing charges of harboring a dangerous dog and not confining a dog.
