Illinois: Mike Semens, 24, filmed himself torturing little animals to death and was so proud of himself he posted the video on YouTube

ILLINOIS -- A 24-year-old Chicago man is accused of posting YouTube videos of himself tasing a mouse to death, cutting off part of a live rat's tail, and cutting off the ears of another mouse while it was alive, police said.

Judge Donald Panarese Jr. on Saturday allowed Michael Semens, 24, to be released on a $10,000 individual recognizance bond. Semens must remain on electronic monitoring while awaiting trial.

Semens allegedly posted one video showing him cutting off a portion of a live rat’s tail and later cut off both of the rat’s ears with surgical scissors, according to a police report.

A second video showed Semens laughing about a poor mouse struggling on a glue trap and then using a Taser on it over and over until it was dead.

When police arrested him Friday outside his residence, he told police, "I know I messed up. I shouldn’t have done it," according to a police report. However, when officers expressed disgust at the horrific, serial-killer-type behavior he had exhibited, he told them, "The video is what it is" so clearly there isn't any remorse about torturing animals to death. His remorse is for himself; that he was caught.

Before setting the bond, Panarese asked Semens what he did for a living.

"I literally work in garbage. If I see a rat, I catch it," Semens said.

Semens has no criminal history as an adult, but who knows what disgusting things he did as a juvenile. Plus, when you get caught, it's not usually the first time you've done this, it's just the first time you've been caught doing it. My guess would be that he has been torturing and killing animals since he was a child. 

Jeffrey Dahmer, the Boston Strangler and Dennis Rader have all said they tortured animals as little boys before moving up to human beings.

Police recovered the taser in his girlfriend's purse and also took his cell phone into evidence.
