OHIO -- Police and the dog warden responded to a complaint of two dogs running at large March 14, in an incident that resulted in one of the dogs being shot.
According to a news release, officers located two pit bulls on Williamsburg Drive about 3:15 p.m. While on scene they learned an area resident was seeking medical treatment after being bit twice on the leg by the dogs.
The dogs also ran up to a golden retriever in a driveway and attacked it without provocation, according to the release. Officers, unable to stop the attack, shot the attacking pit bulls.
The release states one dog died at the scene and the other, which was wounded, fled the scene.
Officers tracked the wounded dog, captured it and transported it to the Avon Lake Animal Clinic for treatment.
According to the release, both dogs had collars but no dog tags. The male pit bull, which was killed, was a dark brindle color, possibly pure bred, and weighed 45 pounds.
The female pit pull, which was possibly a mix with a cane corso dog, weighs about 50 pounds and had recently given birth and been nursing.
Because of the resident’s injuries, police are seeking the dogs’ owner to determine their shot records.
