INDIANA -- A Kokomo woman faces three counts of cruelty to animals after animal control officers found two dead dogs and feces inside her Greentown mobile home back in November.
Deputies served a warrant on Ginger Adams, 38, last week at the jail on three counts of Class A misdemeanor cruelty to animals. She was released from jail after posting $800, 10 percent of the $8,000 bond, and was ordered to appear in court March 17 for her initial hearing, according to court records.
A warrant was issued for arrest Feb. 6 in Howard Superior Court 3 after animal control officers with the Kokomo Humane Society discovered the dead animals and conditions at the trailer, a probable cause affidavit stated.
Sheriff deputies were called into the case after the manager of the Greentown Estates Trailer Park called the humane society in November.
The manager said there were three Chihuahuas inside the trailer and two were dead, the charging information stated. He further said that a neighbor told him he was supposed to be feeding the dogs, but he didn’t go there every day.
When the animal control officer went to the trailer, he found one dog dead in the living room and one dead in the bedroom, court records stated. The dog in the bedroom appeared to be half eaten, the officer said in the court documents. The owner stated there was an opossum in the trailer too that may have eaten the dog.
The third dog that was still alive was taken to the humane society.
When questioned, Adams said she did not live in the trailer at the moment and that she was in the process of getting the power turned back on. She also said she had been there the day before and thought the dogs were alive. The animal control officer said when he went to the trailer that day, the dogs were already dead.
If convicted, she could face up to a one year in prison on each count.
