CBS4 was on hand as Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies took the American bulldog out of the home located in the 4700 block of Pine Road around noon on Tuesday.
The 1-year-old boy is listed in critical condition after being airlifted to The Children’s Hospital.
Some neighbors say the attack never should have happened.
Neighbor Linda Rice said she was stunned to hear about the attack.
“I can’t imagine having a 1- year-old lifted out, and your own baby, and your own dog doing it,” Rice said.
Folsom told CBS4 the couple tried to walk the dog in the past, but it became too aggressive.
“They had to have the choke chain on him and a pinching chain,” Folsom said. “They just walked him back down, put him back in the house.”
Folsom said he has previously held the baby and the little boy was the couple’s only child. He questions why the animal was ever in contact with the infant.
“Upsetting, because the baby can’t protect itself, and that’s not right,” he said.
As deputies continue their investigation, Folsom said his prayers go to the little boy who is now fighting for his life.
“I don’t know anything about the baby, if it’s going to be all right or not. I pray to God. I pray to God that it is,” he said.
The dog was taken to Foothills Animal Shelter. He will be watched for 10 days and checked for aggressive behavior and rabies.
