Both 26-year-old Kimberly Watts and 25-year-old Danny Watts of New Eagle, Washington County, are charged with child endangerment and animal cruelty.
Police contend that the couple wasn’t supervising their 2-year-old daughter and the pit bull puppies, when one of the dogs bit the girl.
That’s when Kimberly Watts is accused of stabbing the dog.
Collin Nayle, who says he’s Danny’s cousin and that he used to live in the Watts’ home, says he saw the four-to-five inch knife and that Kimberly Watts said of the dog: “I tried to kill him.”
A witness says Danny Watts threw another puppy against a wall.
The little girl is doing well, and the couple’s kids are now staying with other family members, according to police.
The dog that was stabbed, named Trooper, is doing much better, according to Humane Officer Cathy Cunningham from C.R.I.C.A.A.T. – a non-profit group that’s caring for the dogs.
She says the other dog, Sadie, is recovering after surgery.
Cunningham removed two more dogs from the Watts’ mobile home Wednesday night shortly after the couple was arrested.
Kimberly and Danny Watts were taken from the Monongahela Police station to the Washington County Jail after a video arraignment.
