A Sacramento man was caught on camera shooting his neighbor's cat with a pellet gun.
CALIFORNIA -- Last week, Jeremy Okada-Smythe pleaded no contest to a single charge of animal cruelty and was sentenced to 220 days in jail and five years’ probation.
Animal Control says Okada-Smythe shot his neighbors cat last June, and the entire incident was captured on home surveillance video.
“It’s flipped from one end to another,” Chief Animal Control Officer Dan Tores said, describing what happened to the cat.
“Then, it’s dragging its rear-end, tries to get away and has to hide. It sits there for two days before it dies.”
But that’s not all the video captured.
It shows Okada-Smythe crouch behind his boat in his driveway, take aim and shoot.
Several minutes later he is also shown talking to his wife. His mannerisms indicating he is reenacting what had taken place and at one point seems to make fun of how the cat writhed in pain.
“No remorse whatsoever,” Tores said. “It probably bothers you the most that he saw the cat drag its body to a location to where eventually it was found.”
