Deputy shoots dog after attack in Mo. pasture

MISSOURI -- A woman and her adult daughter are unhurt but a dog is dead after an incident in a northeast Missouri pasture.

The Quincy (Ill.) Herald-Whig reports that the women were in a horse pasture in Ralls County Tuesday when they encountered three pit bulls who threatened them. The woman used a feed fork and a rope to keep the dogs away. A husband of one of the women heard screams and called 911.

Officers with the Ralls County Sheriff's Department arrived to help, and authorities say one of the dogs came at the officers in a threatening manner. The officer shot and killed the dog.

Sheriff Gerry Dinwiddie says the dogs are owned by a neighbor. Charges are expected.
