DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - A 3-year-old boy in the northeastern town of Las Terrenas died and his mother was seriously injured when they were attacked by three pit bull dogs, Dominican police said Wednesday.
The deadly attack took place at a villa owned by a French citizen where Patricia Alvarado, 24, worked as a maid.
Her son, Juan Antonio Garcia Alvarado, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Los Cubanos hospital, where he was admitted on the verge of death due to the multiple bites he suffered on his neck, face and head, according to the police communique.
The boy’s mother was bitten on the neck when she tried to prevent the animals from killing her son.
Alvarado was treated at the Los Cubanos hospital and later transported on an emergency basis to Santo Domingo’s Doctor Dario Contreras Hospital, where she remains in serious condition.
One of the three dogs was euthanized, according to a preliminary report, which did not explain why the other two animals were not put down.
Police are continuing their investigation of the incident.
