Rural/Metro Fire Department spokesman Colin Williams said the woman, who is in her 40's, had significant injuries and was transported by helicopter to the Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center.
The woman was trying to break up a fight between her two pit bulls in her backyard when the dogs attacked her, Williams said. The woman suffered serious bites to her left wrist and forearm but her injuries were non-life threatening.
Friday's was the fourth dog attack in the Valley in recent months
The highest profile incident occurred on Feb. 20 when a by a pit bull named Mickey mauled a 4-year-old boy in a Phoenix neighborhood. Kevin Vicente was attacked when he entered the dog's yard and tried to take a bone away from the animal.
The case sparked controversy and a campaign by some members of the public to save the dog from being euthanized. Judge Deborah A. Griffith eventually ordered the dog de-fanged, neutered and confined for life to an animal rehabilitation center.
About a month later on March 18, an Akita named Bellah attacked a 9-month-old Tempe girl that it shared a home with and left her in critical condition. The dog was euthanized by Maricopa County Animal Care and Control officials at the family's request.
Then on March 26, a woman was hospitalized after she tried breaking up a fight between her dogs and dogs belonging to another owner in her west Phoenix neighborhood, according to county animal control spokeswoman. The woman was seriously injured.

if she is not draining the blood supply, how is this a bad thing?
ReplyDeleteWhy in the hell are people still reporting the dog bone sh*t!? (As if its relevant to a dog that was NOT starving or abused). There was a witness! Kevin was just barely over the un fenced property line, and he wasn't even facing Mickey. The dog ran the full length of his chain, pulling it taut to attack the tot from behind.
ReplyDeleteThat's why half his face was mauled--pitbulls always go full face if they can. The boy was knocked down onto his stomach, his head turned to the side, where the animal brutally degloved (skinned) what it could get to. Mickey's owners WANTED him euthanized and were rightfully horrified. Problem is, they don't speak English and people are too busy anthropomorphizing streamlined canine killers to bother considering all the facts. Nutters usurped custody of the dog and flushed thousands down the toilet that.. Hmm... Could have gone to the child? Or at the very least funneled into rescuing safe, docile dogs.
