AUSTRALIA -- A MAN has hand his hand ripped apart by a pit bull in the second dog attack in two days.
The attack happened shortly before 10pm in Baptist St, Redfern.
The man, aged in his 30s, suffered severe hand injuries when the dog ripped into him.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics.
The dog has been described as either a pit bull or a Rottweiler.
It is still on the loose after the dog’s owner fled with the dog before police arrived.
Another dog, thought to belong to the man, was also injured in the attack.
It follows a vicious attack in Sans Souci on Friday night which left a 92-year-old woman in intensive care after she was attacked by the family’s pit bull.
The woman was only saved from the attack when two passers-by came to her aid, fighting off the dog by hitting it with beer bottles.
Justin Innes and his son Jacob were walking past Evans St on Friday on the way to an Easter dinner with a six-pack of beer when they saw Irene Koutsounadis being attacked.
Justin Innes hit the dog with one beer before it went for Jacob, who bashed the dog with the rest of the sixpack.
“We’ve never seen that much blood in our lives,” Justin Innes. “(We) grabbed the dog and hit it a couple of times. I hit it with a beer and it went for Jacob. Jacob was holding the sixpack and he’s hit it again.”
The pair managed to drag the dog inside the house.
“Me and my son threw it inside and just laid next to the lady,” Justin Innes said.
Mrs Koutsounadis came to the house with her daughter, Vivi Germanos, when the dog attacked.
Mrs Koutsounadis suffered injuries to her head, neck, chin, and right ear. She was rushed by ambulance to St George Hospital where she is in a critical condition.
Another neighbour, Natalie Tan, 20, said she could hear screaming over her TV. “I came outside and the younger guy said 'call the ambulance — the dog's ripped half her face off',” Ms Tan said.
Mr McCallum said the driveway was covered in blood, which he hosed down “because I didn't want them to have to see that when they come home”.
Neighbours said the dog, Caesar, belonged to her son. The dog is understood to have been destroyed.
