Minneapolis pit bull mix kills dog at park

MINNESOTA -- Police are looking for a pit bull-mix and its owner after a dog attack in a Kingfield neighborhood Park.

That attack early Sunday evening killed a seven pound Papillion named Ziggy, and injured her owner Steve Roesh.

RIP Ziggy - another year another long list of mauled animals

Roesh and his wife Julene Lind were walking their three dogs in Martin Luther King Park when a dog described as a pit bull-boxer mix broke loose from its family, after crossing into the park on the I-35 pedestrian bridge.

"And I said 'Oh my God Steve, it's coming at us,'" recalled Lind the day after the attack.

Lind grabbed two of the dogs, while Roesh tried pull Ziggy into his grasp. He says the pit bull was on him in seconds. "This dog jumped up and grabbed our little dog in his jaws and would not let go, and we tried kicking the dog and hitting the dog, and punching it, but I wouldn't let go."

Roesh says the dog finally released its grip when Ziggy went limp.

Roesh suffered a bite on his arm, covered Monday by two bandages. Ziggy died on the way home.

Roesh and Lind says the dog that attacked was brought to the park by a woman in her 40s or 50s with four children.

They say the woman left the park with the dog, refusing to wait for police or provide contact information.

Minneapolis police have assigned special patrols in the area to try to locate the pit bull-boxer mix and its owner.
