NEVADA -- A 55-year-old woman was airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment to her face after she was bitten by a pit bull/rottweiler mix Saturday morning after she reportedly entered onto private property.
According to Emily Fromelt, spokeswoman for the Bullhead City Police Department, medical and animal control personnel responded to a dog bite report around 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of Oliver Drive.
“The woman had entered the property through a secured gate. The property had several warning signs clearly posted, including ‘Beware of Dog’, ‘Do Not Enter, Guard Dog on Duty’ and ‘No Trespassing’. It is unknown at this time why she entered the property,” said Fromelt, adding that the homeowners did not know the victim and the attack occurred in the perimeter of the fenced yard.
“The dog attacked after exiting through a doggie door when the victim knocked on the door. The occupants of the home attempted to help her and were able to get the dog off the victim and secure him,” said Fromelt.
The victim was immediately taken to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center and subsequently airlifted to Las Vegas for further treatment to her face and arm.
The dog is licensed and is current on its shots. It will undergo a home quarantine for the mandatory 10 days required by law.
Authorities will forward the case to the City Attorney’s Office for further review, added Fromelt.
