Auburn girl, 8, injured by pit bull

MICHIGAN -- An 8-year-old Auburn girl was injured when she was bit by a dog that broke its chain in Ogemaw County.

Michigan State Police from the West Branch Post said the incident occurred in the Sage Lake area on Monday. The girl was walking with her sister, and each girl was carrying a small dog in their arms.

As the girls walked past a neighboring cabin, a pit bull that was chained outside the home broke its chain and attacked the girl.

The girl dropped the small dog she was carrying, and the pit bull attacked it as well. The pit bull’s owners and the girls’ mother were able to separate the dogs.

The child was taken to the Tawas St. Joseph Hospital Emergency Room for treatment of multiple cuts and puncture wounds. The small dog was taken to the Tawas City veterinarian, then to a Saginaw area veterinarian for surgeries.

A report on the incident was forwarded to the Ogemaw County Animal Control officer and the Ogemaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
