Owner arrested after Pit bulls killed neighbor's dog

TENNESSEE -- A Clarksville woman was arrested Tuesday after her two Pit bulls jumped the fence and killed her neighbor’s dog.

Kovin J. Ellington, 28, was charged with two counts of dogs at large and booked into the Montgomery County Jail Tuesday on a $500 bond.

Ellington allegedly had Pit bull dogs that jumped the fence of Emily Pryor, her neighbor, and mauled her Jack Russell dog.

According to the warrant, on May 16, Ellington’s two Pit bulls jumped the neighbor’s fence and attacked and killed her dog. Joshua Calla, another neighbor, ran over to intervene and was bit on the left arm by one of the dogs. He sustained minor injuries. Calla said Ellington did not stop the attack, but stood on her side of the fence trying to stop the dogs.

Ellington finally jumped the fence and pulled the dogs off, according to a previous report.

Jonah, the Jack Russell mix, was put in towels and taken to a veterinarian clinic on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

Pryor had to have her dog put to sleep which cost $160. The dog was valued at $75. If he had lived he would’ve had to have two legs amputated, the report said.

The Leaf-Chronicle reported on the incident after it happened. Clarksville Police or Animal Control did not issue citations or warrants to Ellington.

Pryor and Calla took out the warrants on their neighbor.

“My neighbor and I both took out warrants. We were told to do so. We asked the cops what our options were and that’s what they told us,” Pryor said. “I think there needs to be a change in pet ownership laws and Animal Control laws.”

Calls to Ellington have not been returned at this time.
