Woman gets off on insanity plea after stabbing own dog to death

HAWAII -- A woman who killed her dog by slitting its throat was found not guilty Tuesday by reason of insanity.

Andrea Fiegle was arrested last April, after she called 9-1-1 to say she killed her dog when it would not stop sniffing her daughter.

The Hawaiian Humane Society says when they arrived, her dog Star was already dead.  Humane Society officials say Fiegle attacked Star with a common kitchen item, but she told police she didn't realize the injuries were so severe.

A spokesman for the prosecutors office says it’s unclear if she will face any punishment.
