Randy Higgins says his daughter let Darla, the family's Boston terrier, out on Friday night and they became concerned when she didn't come back.
The family called police, who discovered that the dog had been attacked by a wolf.
Higgins isn't pointing fingers – he just wants the animal off the streets.
"We need to get this thing captured before any other dog or small children gets hurt," Higgins said.
It was one of two timber wolves that escaped from a home near Robertsville last week. One of the wolves was killed by a farmer who discovered it in his sheep pen. The dog was killed about a mile from where the wolves first escaped.
Higgins said he spotted the wolf after his dog was attacked and had the chance to put it down, but his wife wouldn't' let him.
Deputies say the wolves' owner had a permit to keep the wolves. It's not clear how they escaped.
Authorities say not to approach the remaining wolf, and to instead contact the Franklin County Sheriff's Office at 636-583-2560 or Conservation Agent Ben Pursley at 636-744-2974.
