Deputies learned that Jamari Jackson, 31, had severely beaten a pit bull dog to death for unknown reasons.
Several witnesses advised deputies that they witnessed Jackson beating the dog with a baseball bat and his girlfriend, Sammi Corley, 25, was seen hosing the dog down with a water hose while Jackson continuously beat the dog.
The dog was transferred to a local animal hospital where it later died as a result of it's injuries.
Both Jackson and Corley, both of 41270 Merritt Evans Road were arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals on June 16 and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail where they have both been released on bond.
Note: I'm using the "family" label/tag because they're boyfriend and girlfriend and committed the crime together.
