Pit bull injures woman, kills small dog in Wausau

WISCONSIN -- A pit bull attacked a woman and her small dog Thursday, killing the dog and injuring its owner.

The woman, 56, of Wausau was walking her Chihuahua at about 4:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Washington Street when the pit bull ran out of a house, said Wausau Police Lt. Dwayne Dachel.

The woman picked up her dog, and the pit bull bit her left arm twice before dragging her to the ground, he said. Another police report Dachel cited said the dog bit her head as well. When the woman fell, her dog fell out of her arms. The pit bull grabbed her dog and shook it to death.

The father of the pit bull’s owner got the pit bull and brought it back inside, Dachel said.

The pit bull was taken to the Humane Society for quarantine, and authorities referred the animal’s owner to the city attorney for having a dangerous dog, a municipal ordinance violation, Dachel said.

He did not know whether there had been previous issues with the pit bull. Dachel said he wasn’t sure what authorities would do with the dog.
