Dayton couple charged with animal cruelty

OHIO -- The Dayton couple who police say were running an unlicensed dog rescue operation from their home is now charged with animal cruelty.

The Dayton City Prosecutor’s Office approved 13 charges against Samantha Hughes, 24, and Mark Arnold, 27.

They both face five intentional cruelty misdemeanors and eight misdemeanor counts of cruelty and neglect.

13 dogs, including five puppies, were taken from their home on Laura Avenue on June 11.  The conditions at the home were described as deplorable at the time.

The dogs are in the custody of the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center and are not ready for adoption.

Administrators there say some of the dogs were under weight while others had eye infections.
Hughes and Arnold are set for arraignment and a seizure hearing on July 8.
