Police said they found five dead dogs -- some of them just bones -- and 22 other dogs at a home on Gregory Avenue Wednesday afternoon. Collinsville Police Assistant Chief Rex Leath said many of the dogs were not expected to survive.
The dogs -- beagles and hound dogs -- were found after a complaint about odor coming from the property, police said. The surviving dogs were taken to an animal shelter.

The owner of the dogs has not been charged yet. Police said they plan to talk with the district attorney's office about filing felony animal cruelty charges.
