Dog returned to owner after boy and cat attacked in Carlton back garden

UNITED KINGDOM -- A FAMILY is in shock after a dog which viciously attacked two people was returned to its owner.

Last Saturday ten year-old Alfred Dawson noticed an escaped Staffordshire Bull Terrier in his garden had one of his kittens in its mouth.

As the boy tried to rescue the cat by kicking and grappling with the dog, neighbors and family members became involved to get the situation under control at the house in Carriers Way, Carlton.

“I just wanted to save the cat,” said Alfred.

Within five minutes the kitten, called Claudius, was dead but during the incident the dog bit and punctured the skin of a neighbor and caused bruising to Alfred’s arm.

Despite being taken away by the police to a kennel the dog was later collected by the owner and allowed to return home, prompting concern from the family in case of a repeat incident.

“I’m shocked, I’m not sure the police have grasped the seriousness of the situation,” said John Dawson.

“My son had to watch his twelve week old cat torn to bits by this dog.

“We were horrified by the idea that it could’ve been him. He’s very upset but he’s a plucky little bugger and he took an incredible risk.”

Mr Dawson added: “I’m going to use everything in my power to make sure that dog is put down. My family can’t use the back garden now.”

However, the father was particularly angered by the police not informing the family of the dog’s return.

“What reason could they have for not telling us? It was clearly in our interests to be told. Why withhold the information?,” he said.

[I'll tell you why they didn't bother to tell you. Because they're NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. So they just want to quietly give the dog back and hope you forget all about it.]

The family firmly believe the animal should not have been handed back as it was dangerously out of control and caused injury.

Bedfordshire Police are still investigating the incident and the owner has been given strict instructions. A spokesman said destruction would be considered and reiterated that a Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned breed.
