Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office probe of Whitefield burglary yields animal cruelty charge

MAINE -- Lincoln County authorities investigating a March 12 residential burglary recently executed a search warrant on a cellphone belonging to Jeremy Geroux, 36, of Wiscasset and found photos of Geroux sexually assaulting a dog, Lt. Michael Murphy stated in a news release Thursday.

Geroux was summoned Thursday for cruelty to animals.

Geroux was arrested June 16 and charged with burglary, felony theft, theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, criminal mischief and violating conditions of release, Murphy said.

Geroux also was summoned at that time for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and operating after suspension in connection with a crash in Bristol in August 2013.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested two others on multiple charges as a result of the investigation into the burglary on Hinks Road in Whitefield, Murphy stated in the news release.

Jeffrey Lucas, 38

Jeffrey Lucas, 38, of Augusta was arrested June 6 and charged with burglary, felony theft, theft of a firearm and operating after suspension, Murphy said.

Janice Bachelder, 36, of Edgecomb was arrested June 6 and charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution, receiving stolen property and refusing to submit to arrest. Murphy said she also was summoned at that time for trafficking of tobacco into an adult correctional facility.

Janice Bachelder, 36

Murphy said Bachelder had been bringing chewing tobacco to Geroux while he was incarcerated at Two Bridges Regional Jail on unrelated charges.

Lucas has since been released on bail, while both Bachelder and Geroux remain in custody, Murphy said.

The homeowner reported someone broke in and stole about $20,000 in cash, loose change and a shotgun, according to Murphy.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to call Detective Scott Hayden or Detective Terry Michaud at 882-6576.
