New Jersey: Accused arsonist charged with hanging family dog before blaze

NEW JERSEY -- A township man charged with setting his house on fire with the family dog and several cats inside following a dispute with his wife had hung the dog before the blaze, according to a published report.

Janrv Bacolod, 29, faces third-degree animal cruelty charges, in addition to the arson charge against him, the Press of Atlantic City reported. Bacolod was being held at the Atlantic County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail in connection with the July 18 incident, the Press reported.

Police arrived at the house on Holly Street in the township's Mays Landing section
in response to a call of a domestic dispute there, and found the house ablaze, nj.com reported last week.

Authorities later said Bacolod hung the dog before setting the house on fire by dousing several spots with a flammable substance, the Press reported.

Before the incident, Bacolod's wife had obtained a restraining order against him after asserting he had made threatening phone calls to her work place in Egg Harbor, the Press reported.

The Press also said the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement service had placed a retainer on Bacolod, a citizen of the Phillipines.
