Three children attacked by pit bulls in Lantana

FLORIDA -- Three children were taken to the hospital Monday night after being attacked by three pit bulls in Lantana, according to police.

The incident happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. on the 300 block of Melody Lane, said Lantana Police Chief Sean Heller.

The children were transported to Bethesda Hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.

As of Tuesday morning, Palm Beach County Animal Control says all three dogs involved in the attack are at its headquarters and will be put down.

The dogs, which all appear to be pit bull puppies, will be quarantined for 10 days until an investigation is complete.

It's still unclear which dog or dogs bit the three young victims.

Animal Care and Control says the owner of the dogs will face civil fines between $200 to $300 based on whether the animals were on or off the owner's property at the time of the attack.  No criminal charges will be filed against the owner, said investigators.

Authorities say the dogs were not licensed or sterilized.
