She wants to get rid of her dogs after they attacked two young girls, but she says police won’t let her do it.
Lee Ann Duez of Midland told KDKA off-camera that she owns two white labrador mixed dogs.
She also said she feels terrible her dogs got out of her yard and attacked three young girls, two 10-year-olds and a 6-year-old. They were in the neighborhood to visit their grandmother.
“July Fourth, they was coming to see me and they never made it to my house,” said grandmother Lori Brown. “The dogs jumped the fence and they mauled them. They got them in the throat, the arm and the leg.”
The girls’ mother tried to fight the dogs off and was only able to rescue the girls because of passersby that stepped in. One of the 10-year-old girls was actually bitten on her arm and had several scratches from the attack. She was taken to Heritage Valley Hospital for treatment.
“They’ve been a problem in the area for God knows how long,” said Brown. “They’ve been warned about those dogs because they’re not in a fence that’s very secure.”
The dog’s owner described them to KDKA as “Houdini” type dogs, implying they can get out of anything, including a fenced-in yard anytime. But the grandmother of the kids attacked says the dogs have invoked fear for a long time.
“I walk in the front now, ever since the children were attacked,” said Brown.
Midland Police charged the dog’s owner with reckless endangerment and two violations of local dog laws.
She told KDKA she has to keep the dogs until a preliminary hearing set for July 31.
